Mr Anthony Hall is a specialist ophthalmologist with over 25 years of experience in the field. He consults with Eye Surgery Associates which holds clinics in Malvern and East Melbourne. Mr Hall also works in the general eye clinic and the diabetic eye clinic at the Alfred Hospital, where he is the current director of ophthalmology. He also sees patients at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital. Dr Hall's specialist interest is in the medical and surgical management of inflammatory eye diseases and he treats adult and paediatric patients with the following conditions:
Dr Hall graduated with an MBBS from the University of Melbourne in 1991 and pursued a fellowship at Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital, where he trained in viral eye disease and cytomegalovirus infection of the retina. He then undertook a fellowship in uveitis at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2000. He has since served on the Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology editorial board and is an associate professor at Monash University. Dr Hall has also spent time carrying out aid work in Kirabati, Tonga, and Vanuatu.
Dr Hall has a passion for medical education and teaches and mentors trainee doctors and optometry students. He is also an active researcher and has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals such as the Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology journal and the Ocular Immunology and Inflammation journal. His current research topics are infective and inflammatory eye disease, medical retinal disease, and eye surgery.
Dr Hall believes in trying to understand the root cause of a patient's symptoms and treating conditions in a manner that is effective and as easy as possible for the patient to manage.
