About Dr Amr Salam
About Dr Amr Salam is a Consultant Dermatologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the world renowned St John’s Institute of Dermatology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and King’s College London. He is the Lead Consultant for Southwark Community Dermatology service, supervising GPs, and providing him with a vast range of dermatology expertise. He is also part of Acute (Hot) Dermatology clinic, looking after patients with a range of acute presentations. He consults on all general skin conditions including Acne, Hair loss, Eczema, Psoriasis, Rosacea, Skin Cancer and Skin Lesions/Moles. He performs a broad range of skin surgery. In particular, Dr Salam has in-depth specialist expertise in: • Hair loss • Acne • Eczema Clinical Training Dr Salam graduated with Honours from medical school at the University of Birmingham, and completed his intercalated BSc with 1st Class Honours at Bart’s and the Royal London School of Medicine where he was awarded the University Prize for the highest academic mark. Dr Salam completed the prestigious Academic Foundation Programme at Imperial College London Hospitals, where he was awarded the Sir Brian Jarman Prize for the best research project. He then went on to complete his general medical training in South London, working at internationally renowned centres such as King’s College Hospital and The Royal Marsden Hospital. Dr Salam went on to become the highest ranking Dermatology specialist training candidate in the UK, and completed his specialist dermatology training at the world renowned St John’s Institute of Dermatology. Clinical Practice Dr Salam has a vast range of clinical experience covering the whole scope of dermatology. He treats everything from acne to general rashes, moles to skin tags, and performs a wide range of skin surgeries. As the Lead Consultant for the Southwark Community Dermatology service, and is part of the Acute (Hot) Clinic service at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology, covering the entire scope of skin disease. Dr Salam completed a 1-year fellowship in Medical Dermatology and Medical Education at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology where he developed specialist expertise in managing hair loss, acne, eczema, and psoriasis. He also undertook a clinical attachment at the highly prestigious Yale University Dermatology Department, USA. He has published and presented nationally and internationally on range of skin and hair disorders. Education & Training Dr Salam has completed his Masters in Clinical Education at King’s College London, and is the Director for the international St John’s Diploma in Specialist Dermatology (www.stjohnsdiploma.com) the world’s first and only distance learning qualification in specialist dermatology. He is the Course Director for 2 national & international courses. He sat for many years on various British Association of Dermatologists Committees and Workstreams. Dr Salam is internationally published, has authored multiple textbook chapters, and is an invited speaker at international conferences. He is a senior lecturer and tutor at King’s College London, and is also a research collaborator with NASA. In his spare time Dr Salam is a keen badminton player, competing at county level, and enjoys skiing. Dr Salam can also speak fluent Arabic as a second language.
