An der Medizinischen Universität Wien ist Dr. Gaiger als Professor sowie Programmdirektor für Telemedizin, E-Health und Artificial Intelligence wie auch dem Fachgebiet Comprehensive Cancer tätig. Im Fokus steht die Entwicklung neuer integrativer E-Health Lösungen (ESMART) für Tumorpatienten und die Integration der Technologie in klinische Abläufe.Neben seiner Tätigkeit als Arzt widmet sich Dr. Gaiger der klinischen Forschung. Zu seinen Spezialisierungen gehören:Immuntherapie in der Hämato-Onkologie. Entwicklung eines WT1 Leukemie- und KrebsimpfstoffesGenexpressionsanalysen in der Hämatologie (Microarray und Real Time PCR)Entwicklung einer molekularen Klassifikation hämatologischer ErkrankungenDr. Alexander Gaiger schloss 1988 an der Universität Wien das Studium der Medizin und Philosophie ab, bevor er die Psychotherapieausbildung und das Akupunkturdiplom ablegte. Im Anschluss absolvierte er die Facharztausbildung Innere Medizin, das Diplom psychotherapeutische Medizin, ÖAK Diplom PsyIII und die Zusatzfacharztausbildung Hämatologie. Dr. Gaiger spezialisierte sich in Immunologie und bildete sich in Onkologie sowieStammzelltransplantation weiter. Er ist Vorstand der Abteilung für onkologische Rehabilitation und Präsident der Österreichischen Akademie für onkologische Rehabilitation und Psychoonkologie (ÖARP).
