About Mr Alexander Armstrong
Dr Alexander Armstrong is a highly experienced Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgeon based at University Hospital Plymouth NHS Trust. With over a decade of clinical practice, he specialises in complex upper limb surgery for both adults and children, working closely with orthopaedic teams to deliver advanced limb reconstruction at a Major Trauma Centre. His practice includes a strong focus on paediatric conditions such as limb differences, hypospadias, and vascular anomalies, shaped by a dedicated subspecialty fellowship at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Dr Armstrong has trained across leading UK plastic surgery centres and internationally in Australia and the USA, as well as participating in a charitable surgical mission to Cambodia. Beyond surgery, Dr Armstrong has a keen interest in healthcare quality and patient safety. In 2016, he worked alongside national leaders in NHS England, contributing to regulatory oversight and inspection of healthcare services. He continues to advise the Care Quality Commission as a Specialist Advisor. A founding member and trustee of the Cosmetic Practice Standards Authority, Alex played a key role in developing national standards for non-surgical cosmetic procedures, launched in the House of Lords in 2018. His approach balances surgical expertise with a commitment to safety, innovation, and compassionate care.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
