About
Education and Training
Mr Kamel graduated from medical school in Cairo, Egypt, in 1997. He joined his early training in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology in early 1999, then secured his Master's degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2003. In 2005, he relocated to the UK, successfully obtaining membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in 2006 after passing his exams on the first attempt.
He gained extensive training through the rigorous UK medical training system, rotating through several large hospitals in both the London Deanery (North Thames East) and East of England (EoE) Deanery. This diverse wide exposure to renowned trainers in both regions allowed Mr Kamel to develop his clinical, academic, and surgical skills extensively.
Professional Summary and Practice
Following obtaining his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2012, Mr Kamel was appointed as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Croydon University Hospital in 2013, where he continues to work as the Lead clinician for vulval specialist services and gynaecology risk management. In 2017, he joined Shirley Oaks Hospital, where he also conducts his private practice.
In addition, Mr Kamel developed special interest in the field of vulval gynaecological conditions which has led him to establish and currently lead the ever popular and reputable vulval disease specialist service at Croydon University Hospital. He has also extended his expertise in this speciality to Shirley Oaks Hospital.
His work in diagnosing and treating vulval conditions has earned him an excellent reputation in the field with numerous invitations as a speaker at national and international conferences.

Expertise and Specialist Interests
Mr Kamel’s extensive expertise in minimal access surgery (key-hole) or (laparoscopy), include procedures such as the following;
• Myomectomy (removal of womb fibroids when applicable)
• Ovarian cystectomy (removal of ovarian cysts)
• Adhesiolysis (removal of tissue adhesions/sticking together)
• Pelvic exploration and tubal testing for fertility
• Salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of tubes and/or ovaries)
• Tubal sterilisation (female permanent contraception via clips or removal of tubes)
• Treatment for mild to moderate endometriosis
• Hysterectomy (removal of the womb)
In addition, Mr Kamel excels in performing hysteroscopic (camera examination of the womb) diagnostic and complex operative procedures such as the following;
• Fibroid resection (cutting of fibroids through vaginal approach)
• Polypectomy (removal of cervical or womb polyps (over grown localised tissues)
• Removal or dividing of womb septums or adhesions
• Insertion or retrieval of intrauterine devices (coils as Copper coil or Mirena)
• Endometrial ablation (heating of the lining of the womb to treat heavy periods)
Furthermore, Mr. Kamel offers vulvoscopy (camera examination of the vulva) for enhancing diagnosis, education and treatment options for various vulval conditions such as the following;
• Vulvodynia (vulval pain)
• Vulval itching
• Soreness
• Adhesions
• Lichen sclerosus and planus
• Vulval biopsies
• Vulval localised lesion removal
• Treatment of genital warts
• Persistent vaginal discharge or infections among other vulval disorders
Research, Publications and Teaching
During his training and throughout his entire career, Mr Kamel developed a fascination with the evolving advances in his field, participating in research and publishing articles and reviews in respected gynaecology journals.
Mr Kamel believes in passing on his extensive knowledge and experience to the next generation of doctors. He enjoys teaching both under and postgraduate students.
Clinical Philosophy
Mr Kamel is renowned for his compassionate, patient-centred and holistic approach to gynaecological health care. He strongly believes in minimising surgical interventions unless the benefits clearly outweigh the risks and prioritises minimally invasive procedures whenever possible. His surgical approach involves advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic techniques, ensuring patients receive the most effective treatment with minimal recovery time at hospital and/or at home.
Personal Interests
Outside of his medical practice, Mr Kamel is passionate about classic literature and poetry. He is an enthusiast of London's theatre scene and has attended most of the notable theatre shows. He has authored scientific short novels in Arabic and enjoys keeping active through rowing, swimming, and nature expeditions. Above all, Mr Kamel loves spending quality time with his family.
