Mr Vishal Arun Patel is a Consultant Breast Surgeon practising at the renowned Mount Vernon Hospital in London under the Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust. He also serves as an Honorary Consultant at Royal Free Hospital and as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College. Specialising in oncoplastic breast surgery, Mr Patel has dedicated his career to the treatment of breast cancer, risk reduction surgery, familial breast cancer, partial breast reconstruction, and benign breast disease.
Graduating from Imperial College London in 2003, Mr Patel refined his surgical expertise at several specialist breast units across London, including The Royal Marsden and Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust. His training culminated with a National Awarded Oncoplastic fellowship at the Breast and Plastic Surgery Department at Royal Free Hospital—a gold standard in breast reconstruction training awarded to only a select few.
Notably, he is the first individual globally to have completed Surgical Education Research in the Metaverse, earning a PhD in Virtual Reality Surgical Simulation from Imperial College London in 2015. His pioneering research has led to numerous peer-reviewed publications and multiple awards, including recognition from the American Association of Surgical Education. An enthusiastic educator, Mr Patel is also a valued member of the teaching faculty for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as a Surgical Tutor for Hillingdon Hospital, continually driving innovation in surgical practice and patient care.
