Miss Khanam trained to become an ophthalmic surgeon more than two decades ago achieving her aspiration since medical school of giving gift of sight to her patients. As well as her core work in the UK, Miss. Khanam performs charitable work in Vision camps abroad with the humbling experience of the burden of mass sight loss.

· Miss. Khanam also served as Consultant in Cornea, Cataract & Anterior Segment Surgery within the NHS.
· Miss. Khanam held senior roles at the School of Ophthalmology, Health Education England, including Training Programme Director of Education, Joint Curriculum Delivery Lead.
· Miss. Khanam is currently serving as the Clinical Lead for Women in Vision UK.
· Miss. Khanam is practicing as Refractive, Cataract & Corneal Ophthalmic Surgeon in the private sector.
· Miss. Khanam has published more than 30 articles, abstracts, reports and book chapters and has delivered more than 10 invited lectures in five continents and is currently authoring a book.
· Miss. Khanam has trained more than 12 ophthalmic surgeons in cataract, anterior segment and eyelid surgery. She has personally performed 5,000 microsurgical surgeries, including refractive and cataract surgeries.

· 2021 Miss. Khanam was recognised and awarded for her innovative teaching of wet lab corneal transplant surgeries.
· 2019 The Physicians Associates nominated Miss. Khanam for best Ophthalmology teaching sessions at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
· 2015 University College Medical School students nominated Miss. Khanam for her Ophthalmology teaching.
· 2010 School of Ophthalmology awarded Miss. Khanam for best Junior audit project of the year.
Community
Miss. Khanam is a co-founder and on the Board of Trustees of the UK based charity, Mannan Foundation Trust, where she serves on the Executive Committee. This charity provides gift of sight and health to many underprivileged people without access to healthcare in Bangladesh. This charity also provides financial support to women and children to further their education and income prospects. The charity continues to collaborate with other local charities, which have similar ethos and work in Africa and Bangladesh.
Miss. Khanam is passionate about advancing the progress of female Ophthalmologists. She is the Clinical Lead for Women in Vision in UK.
