Dr Tanya Karaconji specialises in all aspects of general ophthalmology with a particular interest in glaucoma and cataract surgery. She is based in Australia with practices in Westmead, Gordon, Hurstville, and Sydney.
Dr Karaconji qualified in 2009 from the University of Sydney, where she also earned a master's degree in Clinical Ophthalmology before undertaking specialist ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital. She then spent time at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom where she received advanced sub-specialist fellowship training in glaucoma treatment and surgery. During this time, Dr Karaconji gained considerable experience in complex glaucoma therapy, including the use of glaucoma drainage devices, non-penetrating glaucoma surgery, and minimally invasive glaucoma treatments.
Dr Karaconji is also involved in medical education as a clinical senior lecturer with the University of Sydney. She has an interest in research and has authored a number of articles in peer-reviewed journals and is often asked to present at national and international ophthalmic conferences.
