About

Dr Susan Shaw qualified from University College and the Middlesex School of Medicine in 1992, before starting her training in Psychiatry on the Royal Free Hospital Psychiatry Rotation in North London. She then moved to the Institute of Psychiatry in London researching into the use of computerised CBT for anxiety disorders with Professor Isaac Marks. She developed the self-help computer CBT program 'Fear Fighter' which continues to be used by sufferers. During this period she worked as a Clinical Lecturer in Behavioural Psychotherapy.

She completed her higher training in General Adult Psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital in London in 2000. Following a period working for a pharmaceutical company, Dr Shaw took up her first Consultant post in General Adult Psychiatry in 2002 at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. She moved to work as an NHS consultant based in Oxford in 2006, working at the Warneford Hospital until 2017. In September 2017, she moved to work in the department of Psychological Medicine, which is based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. She currently works within the departments of renal and transplant medicine, occupational health and across the hospitals in emergency and urgent work.

Dr Shaw has expertise in diagnosing and treating the full range of psychiatric conditions from age 18 upwards.

Dr Shaw treats adults of working age from 18 – 65. During the Covid pandemic she has been offering telemedicine appointments but is keen to return to seeing her patients face to face once the pandemic has ended. Telemedicine appointments will still also be available.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
