About Mr Stephen J Morgan
Consultant Ophthalmologist, on UK Specialist Register since 1996. GMC Registration number 2725552. FRCOphth, Diploma in Ophthalmology (RCS, London). I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist and for most of my career have specialised in corneal diseases. For many years I was the lead surgeon for corneal transplantation at Sunderland Eye Infirmary. I performed penetrating, deep lamellar and endothelial corneal transplants. I published papers on chemical eye injuries and performed limbal stem cell transplants to rehabilitate severely injured eyes. I used autologous and donor serum eye drops to treat patients with severe dry eyes. In my later years in the Hospital Eye Service I performed a great many YAG laser procedures and actively promoted one-stop, rapid access YAG laser treatment. I now run a local one-stop service for minor eyelid conditions under the NHS, and consult at a fully equipped private clinic in Newcastle offering innovative solutions for patients suffering from dry eye. Dry eye treatments that we can offer include:- Intense Pulsed Light using the FDA-approved Lumenis OptilightTM system Low Level Light Therapy BlephexTM and ZestTM Meibomian intraduct probing Punctal plugging I am also happy to see patients with eyelid or corneal problems, and to perform YAG laser capsulotomies.
