About Dr Sohail Omar
Dr Sohail Omar is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, based at Colchester General Hospital. He specialises in general gastroenterology and advanced therapeutic endoscopy, with a particular interest in pancreatobiliary disease, Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS). He is one of only a small number of specialists in the region performing EUS, an advanced procedure used to diagnose and manage complex pancreatic, biliary, and gastrointestinal conditions. Dr Omar completed his medical training at King's College London, where he obtained both his MBBS and an additional BSc in Clinical and Molecular Endocrinology. He later completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at University College London. Following specialist training in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine across the East of England deanery, Dr Omar undertook an advanced post-CCT fellowship in Pancreatobiliary Endoscopy at The Royal London Hospital, further developing expertise in complex endoscopic procedures. Dr Omar is an integral member of the hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) cancer team at Colchester General Hospital, working closely within a multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated and timely care for patients with suspected and confirmed HPB cancers. Dr Omar provides comprehensive care for a wide range of digestive and liver conditions, including: • Abdominal pain and bloating • Changes in bowel habits • Acid reflux and indigestion • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) • Coeliac disease • Liver disease • Benign and malignant pancreatic conditions • Gallstone and biliary disorders He performs both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including: • Gastroscopy • Colonoscopy including polypectomy (removal of polyps) • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) • Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) • GI stenting and dilatations Dr Omar believes strongly in delivering patient-centred, evidence-based care, ensuring that each patient receives clear communication, compassionate treatment, and management tailored to their individual needs.
