About Dr Shashank Sharma
Dr Shashank Sharma is a respiratory consultant based at the Runnymede Hospital. he has clinical interests in the following areas: • Chronic Intractable Cough • Long Covid • Breathlessness • Asthma • COPD • Bronchiectasis • Pulmonary Fibrosis • Lung cancer • Bronchoscopy • EBUS and Medical Thoracoscopy • Sleep apnoea • TB • Pneumonia and recurrent chest infections • Pleural effusion He gained his medical degree in 2001 from TN Dr. MGR Medical University in India before undertaking a diploma in chest diseases at Delhi University in 2004. He went on to complete medical training in Wales before relocating to London and training in respiratory medicine. In 2008, he was awarded a prize for the best newcomer trainee in his first year of Higher training and, in 2014, he gained his MRCP after completing respiratory training in the London and KSS Deanery. The same year, he joined Ashford and St Peter's hospital as a respiratory consultant. During this time, he was responsible for establishing multiple services including the ambulatory pleural service and medical thoracoscopy. As the lead for respiratory medicine at the hospital, Dr Sharma led the response to the covid-19 pandemic and has gained particular expertise in acute and long-term covid. He also led the development of the trust covid management guidelines throughout the pandemic. In 2017 and 2020, Dr Sharma games Clinical Excellence awards for his work.
