Dr Shahzad Maqbool is a highly experienced neurological and spinal surgeon with an extensive career spanning over two decades. He graduated in 1989 from the University of the Punjab in Lahore, Pakistan, and went on to complete a fellowship in neurosurgery with the College of Surgeons of South Africa in 1999. In 2013, he further specialised by completing a fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice.
With over 26 years of experience as a consultant, Dr Shahzad has spent 18 years leading neurosurgery departments in well-established hospitals across South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Notably, he played a pioneering role in developing neurological and spinal services in South Africa’s Northern Cape province, establishing both government and private sector provisions before relocating to the UAE in 2010, where he continues to practise.
Throughout his career, Dr Shahzad has performed more than 5,000 major brain and spine surgeries in both adult and paediatric patients, in addition to a wide range of procedures focused on chronic pain management.
