About Mr Samer Mahmoud
Mr. Samer Mahmoud is a highly skilled, nationally and internationally fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery. His expertise encompasses hip and knee joint replacement (arthroplasty), sports-related hip injuries, keyhole (arthroscopic) procedures, and the management of complex trauma. Having trained in some of the most respected orthopaedic institutions in both the UK and Australia, Mr. Mahmoud combines surgical precision with an evidence-based, patient-centred philosophy. He believes that the best outcomes are achieved through shared decision-making, offering his patients a clear understanding of all available treatment options and guiding them to choose the path best suited to their clinical needs and lifestyle. His work within multidisciplinary teams ensures each patient benefits from a holistic, well-rounded approach to care. Mr. Mahmoud’s academic and professional qualifications are extensive. He holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Orth), a Master’s degree in Trauma and Orthopaedics, and diplomas from the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EBOT) and the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT). Mr. Mahmoud began his early medical training in Merseyside, working at Aintree University Hospitals, before moving to South West London, where he gained valuable experience at St George’s Hospital and the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC). He went on to complete his national specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the North East of England (Newcastle Rotation)—an elite programme that honed his skills in complex joint and trauma surgery. He obtained his FRCS (Tr & Orth) in 2019 and received his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2020, officially registering as a specialist orthopaedic surgeon. Following completion of his training, Mr. Mahmoud pursued advanced subspecialty fellowships in Australia, beginning at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, a high-volume trauma and orthopaedic centre where he gained expertise in complex hip and knee reconstruction, revision arthroplasty, and trauma surgery. He then joined Hip Arthroscopy Australia, training under Professor John O’Donnell, one of the world’s pioneers in hip arthroscopy. This fellowship equipped him with world-class skills in hip preservation surgery, enabling him to manage sports-related hip problems and labral injuries with minimally invasive techniques. Upon returning to the UK, Mr. Mahmoud undertook further advanced fellowship training in complex hip and knee surgery at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, where he performed more than 200 hip and knee replacements within a single year. He now works as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in West Yorkshire, where he has successfully introduced a hip arthroscopy service at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust. A dedicated researcher and educator, Mr. Mahmoud has published multiple practice-changing studies in high-impact journals and presented his findings at national and international meetings. His research on metal-on-metal hip replacement complications, conducted under the supervision of Mr. Steve Jones at University Hospital Wales, has contributed valuable insights to orthopaedic practice. He continues to serve as a reviewer for several leading journals, including the Journal of Arthroplasty and Arthroscopy Journal.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
