About Dr Rishi Dhand
Dr. Rishi Dhand is a dedicated Sports Medicine Doctor, currently serving as the first team doctor at Leeds United Football Club. Dr. Dhand is particularly adept in musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound-guided interventions for conditions like osteoarthritis and tendon problems. After graduating from Newcastle University, Dr. Dhand pursued Foundation training and later served as a Surgical Teaching Fellow at Sunderland Hospital, where he gained experience in General Surgery and medical student education. His career path led him to Yorkshire for GP training, including a rotation in Rheumatology where he managed a weekly injection clinic for patients with inflammatory arthritis. Concurrently, he earned a Diploma in Sports Medicine with Merit from the University of Bath and became a Member of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2021. Dr. Dhand has pursued additional qualifications in ultrasound training, achieved with distinction in London, supplemented by further training in Leeds and London. His time as the first team doctor at Leeds United coincided with their promotion to the Premier League, marking a significant milestone in the club's history. Beyond football, Dr. Dhand has provided medical support to Castleford Tigers RLFC, Yorkshire RFU, and British Gymnastics, spanning World, European, and British Championships. He also served as Chief Medical Officer for British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) from 2019 to 2022. Dr. Dhand is actively involved in medical education, holding a Postgraduate Certificate in medical education and serving as an honorary lecturer at Leeds University. His passion for teaching extends to mentoring medical students and junior doctors.
