About
With a robust educational background rooted in the United Kingdom, Dr Abbas completed their basic psychiatry training at the Charing Cross Hospital Training Scheme in London. They subsequently undertook higher specialist training within the NHS in Scotland (Grampian and Lothian). Dr Abbas has been a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) since 2004 and holds a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Psychiatry with an endorsement in Addiction Psychiatry. Additionally, they possess a Certificate in the Management of Substance Misuse from the Royal College of General Practitioners in Scotland and have previously served as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Dundee.
In their clinical practice, Dr Abbas possesses extensive expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide spectrum of mental health conditions. They have a particular clinical interest in perinatal psychiatry, supporting women during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Furthermore, Dr Abbas is skilled in treating anxiety and affective disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder, as well as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), ADHD, and psychosis. Their proficiency extends to addiction psychiatry and smoking cessation, utilising both psychopharmacology and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques to facilitate recovery.
