Originally from North Queensland, Dr. Hartin completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Queensland, and was awarded a research scholarship at the Australian National University, where he studied electron momentum spectroscopy in the Atomic and Molecular Physics Laboratories. He went on to complete his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours at the University of Queensland.
After graduation, Dr. Hartin moved to Sydney, completing four years of basic surgical training followed by four years of advanced orthopaedic training across major hospitals including Royal North Shore, Royal Prince Alfred, Westmead, and the Mater Hospital. He was awarded his FRACS in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2010.
Dr. Hartin undertook a Paediatric Spine Deformity Fellowship at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland, Oregon, before completing advanced Spine Trauma training at Royal North Shore Hospital. He then travelled to the Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, USA, one of America’s leading spine institutions, for a Fellowship in Deformity and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). He also holds a Master of Medicine (Clinical Epidemiology) from the University of Sydney.
Dr. Hartin has since returned to Sydney, where he provides comprehensive care for patients with spinal conditions, ranging from degenerative disease to complex deformities and spinal tumours. He has a particular passion for scoliosis surgery, minimally invasive techniques, and spine reconstruction, offering personalised, evidence-based treatment tailored to each patient’s needs.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Hartin is a Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Sydney, actively involved in research, surgical education, and mentoring the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.
