Dr Narelle Spencer has over 15 years of clinical and surgical experience in ophthalmology and has performed over 5000 cataract procedures. Based in Melbourne, Dr Spencer took over ownership of the Heidelberg Eye Clinic in 2007 and also practises at Canterbury Eye Specialists and Manningham Private Hospital. She places emphasis on good communication to ensure the best possible outcome for patients.

Dr Spencer qualified with an honour's degree from Monash University in 1995, before completing a 3-year surgical residency program at the Alfred Hospital and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. She undertook her ophthalmic training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne and subsequently worked at the Sydney Eye Hospital as a senior registrar. Dr Spencer has pursued two fellowships in the UK – one in glaucoma, followed by a second in oculoplastic surgery at the Bristol Eye Hospital. She then returned to Australia where she held the position of consultant ophthalmologist at the Forster Eye Surgery and Gloucester Memorial Hospital. She has also worked at both the Austin Hospital and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.

Dr Spencer is actively involved in teaching and has lectured at multiple conferences. She also teaches medical students, ophthalmic registrars, optometrists, and pharmacists. She is Involved in the Continual Professional Development program at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists of which she is also a fellow. Other bodies Dr Spencer is a member of are the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Australasian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Australian, the New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists, and the Australian and New Zealand Glaucoma Interest Group.
