About Mr Shahid Khan

Mr Khan qualified from the King Edward Medical University (Mayo Hospital) in 1996 and trained at various prestigious urology institutions, which include the stone units at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, St.George's Hospital, Tooting and Guy's Hospital, London. After completing his specialist training in urology at the London/Kent Sussex & Surrey Deanery, he developed his specialist interest in urinary stone disease, advance endourology and upper tract laparoscopy. Mr Khan is a Consultant Urological Surgeon, who predominantly employs minimally invasive surgical techniques i.e Robotic/Laparoscopy (key-hole surgery), Endourological (through the urinary passage), Percutaneous (via a tiny skin incision on the back) and External Shock Wave Surgery (ESWL) to break up or remove kidney/ureteric stones. Mr Khan is laparoscopically and robotic trained, and with his dedicated team at East Surrey Hospital,  routinely performs radical nephrectomies and nephroureterectomies for both renal and ureteric cancers. He is also actively involved in developing a robotic programme at East Surrey Hospital, which in the future will improve access of the local population to the latest cutting edge technologies. Mr Khan also cares for patients with all aspects of general urology, including men seeking surgery for benign prostate hyperplasia. He is skilled in a variety of surgical procedures including monopolar/bipolar TURP, Greenlight and Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate gland. Mr Khan has over 15 years experience of dealing with complex ureteric and renal stones and offers both Mini and Ultra-Mini PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy) routinely. The advantage being reduced post-surgical pain and shorter in-hospital stay. Moreover, he uses both fiberoptic flexible and digital ureteroscopy in treating upper ureteric and renal stones and most patients are dealt with on a Day Surgery basis. Mr Khan loves sport particularly cricket and rugby. Diseases, Medical Tests and Treatments • Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (Mini and Micro PCNL) • Template Prostate Biopsy (MRI Fusion Biopsies) • Flexible/Rigid ureteroscopy and laser stone fragmentation • Ureteric Strictures - Endourological Management including expertise with metallic stents. • Peno-scrotal surgery • BPH Surgery (Monopolar, Bipolar, Green light laser and HOLEP) • Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour • Raised PSA, Renal Stones, Vasectomy

"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
