Mr Roland Hettige is a fully trained Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon with over a decade of super-specialist training in advanced nasal and sinus surgery, gained in both London and Oxford. He currently works at Wexham Park Hospital, where he leads the Rhinology service and accepts complex and revision referrals from across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and London.
He specialises in rhinology, a field that includes both functional and cosmetic nasal surgery. His expertise covers procedures such as septorhinoplasty, complex functional endoscopic sinus surgery (including frontal sinus surgery), turbinate surgery for nasal blockage, endoscopic artery ligation for nosebleeds, and advanced treatments for nasal allergies such as posterior neurectomy, vidian neurectomy and cryotherapy. He manages a wide range of conditions including chronic sinus disease, nasal allergies, non-allergic rhinitis, deviated nasal septum, sinus infections, nasal polyps, loss of smell, sinus headaches, snoring and sleep apnoea, as well as general ENT conditions in both adults and children.
Mr Hettige has extensive surgical experience, having performed over 250 rhinoplasty procedures, including both cosmetic and functional cases, primary and revision surgeries, and complex reconstructions using grafting techniques. He has also carried out more than 750 advanced sinus procedures, including treatment for extensive nasal polyps and frontal sinus disease, as well as over 400 septal surgeries to correct nasal airway obstruction. In addition, he has performed more than 750 tonsil and adenoid procedures in both adults and children, using modern techniques such as coblation.
He is known for his patient-focused approach, combining technical precision with a strong emphasis on understanding each individual’s needs and achieving both functional and aesthetic outcomes. He believes that optimal long-term results depend not only on expert surgical technique but also on careful follow-up and evidence-based medical management.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Hettige is actively involved in clinical governance and education. He sits on the Clinical Effectiveness and Audit Committee within his NHS Trust and contributes to national ENT training initiatives as part of Student and Foundation Otolaryngology UK (SFOUK). He is also involved in the development of electronic data management systems within the Trust and has contributed as faculty at major international meetings, including the European Rhinological Conference in London.
