About Mr Manal Kumar

Mr Manal Kumar was appointed as a consultant urological surgeon at Wirral University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2008, where he treats all urological conditions with a special interest in cancer. A large part of his work involves treating prostate cancer patients and he was the first to use robotic surgery at the Wirral for this purpose. He is also one of the few high-volume surgeons undertaking laparoscopic and robotic radical prostatectomy in the UK. Dr Kumar is highly experienced, with over 10 years in the field, training across all areas of urology, including minimally invasive stone surgery and micro-vascular surgery; additionally, he regularly mentors other consultants at different trusts who are looking to expand their skill set into these procedures. He completed his training in 1993 and went on to undertake specialist training in the Mersey region. This included visits to some of the world's leading urological centres, such as the Cleveland Clinic and Long Island Jewish Medical Centre. His areas of interest include the following: • Prostate, Bladder and Kidney cancer • Robotic assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, • robotic retzius sparing prostatectomy; • robotic partial nephrectomy, • robotic cystectomy • robotic reconstructive surgery and robotic Millins prostatectomy; • Urinary tract disorders; • Microsurgery varicocele ligation; • Reconstructive surgery; • lower urinary tract symptoms, urinary tract infections; urinary tract stones; • erectile dysfunction; • transperineal prostatic biopsy

"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
