He introduced enhanced recovery to the trust, resulting in a high volume of procedures with minimal complications. While maintaining a focus on complex surgeries, he transitioned his practice entirely to the independent sector after relinquishing his NHS role. In addition to his clinical work, Mr. Smith provides a specialist Orthopaedic Medicolegal reporting service and remains dedicated to training junior trainees and operating staff. He teaches annually on an Arthroscopy course in association with Canterbury Christchurch University.
