About Mr Henry Tilney
Mr Henry Tilney graduated from St Bartholomew's Hospital and undertook his basic surgical training in Guildford and Chichester. He was later appointed to the South West Thames Higher Surgical Training Programme, during which he carried out research into quality assessment in rectal cancer surgery at St Mary's Hospital, part of Imperial College London. His research led to an MD thesis supported by a Royal College of Surgeons of England Research Fellowship and a quality improvement grant from The Health Foundation. His academic interests include rectal cancer, outcomes analysis, quality improvement, laparoscopic colorectal surgery and ileal pouch surgery, and he has collaborated with St Mark's Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, USA. Mr Tilney completed subspecialist training at St George's Hospital, Royal Surrey County Hospital and Frimley Park Hospital, where he developed his expertise in minimally invasive colorectal surgery. He was appointed Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon in June 2009, with a specialist interest in minimally invasive surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland, the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland and the Royal Society of Medicine.
