About Prof Ewen Griffiths
Prof Ewen Griffiths qualified as a doctor in 2000 and works as Consultant Upper GI and General Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham University Hospitals Foundation Trust, Edgbaston, Birmingham. He sees patients privately at the Circle Priory Hospital and HCA The Harborne Hospital. He was appointed as an Honorary Professor in 2023 with the University of Birmingham. He is a specialist in treating patients with Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgical problems. In 2004, he achieved Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons. Higher surgical training was obtained in the North West of England, including Specialist Registrar posts in Salford Royal Hospital and Royal Preston Upper Gastrointestinal Units. He obtained his Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons in 2010. He was trained in advanced minimal access surgery in his Fellowship year in Adelaide, Australia in 2011-2012. Prof Griffiths clinical interests include Hernia surgery (open and laparoscopic), Gallbladder surgery, Anti-reflux surgery and hiatus hernia repair, Endoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic) and Gastric and oesophageal cancer management and surgery. He has various professional memberships including Association of Upper GI Surgeons, Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons, GB&I West Midlands Surgical Society and European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons. He is married with two teenage boys and enjoys cycling; hillwalking, fine dinning and computer technology.
