About Mr Colin Vize
Mr Colin Vize is an Ophthalmologist practising at Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital and Spire Hesslewood Clinic. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Newcastle, awarded in 1993, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth). He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (PGCME). Mr Vize has over 20 years of experience in ophthalmology and provides diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of eye conditions. His clinical interests include cataract surgery, advanced refractive cataract surgery, oculoplastic surgery, eyelid disorders, lacrimal disorders and watery eyes, thyroid eye disease, and periocular plastic surgery including aesthetic blepharoplasty. He also manages skin cancers affecting the periocular region and provides a comprehensive general ophthalmic service. His surgical practice includes procedures such as cataract removal, eyelid surgery and eyelid cyst removal, orbital decompression for thyroid eye disease, and management of ectropion, entropion, ptosis, and other eyelid malpositions. He is currently a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and serves as Honorary Senior Lecturer at Hull York Medical School. Teaching forms a significant part of his work, involving undergraduate and postgraduate education, as well as lectures to local general practitioners and optometrists. He is a member of the medical advisory committee at Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital and Medical Director for Family and Women’s Health Group at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. Mr Vize has published research in peer-reviewed journals on topics including catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome, anterior segment ischaemia, eyelid malposition and surgical techniques. His professional memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmologists, British Oculoplastic Surgery Society, British Medical Association, Royal College of Ophthalmologists, European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Reconstructive Surgeons, and the North of England Ophthalmological Society. He is available for both in-person and virtual consultations.
