About Mr Anthony Antoniou

Mr Anthony Antoniou is a consultant colorectal surgeon at The Princess Grace Hospital and The London Digestive Centre. He also works at St Mark's Hospital and The National Bowel Hospital, an internationally renowned centre for colorectal and intestinal diseases. He undertakes laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal surgery, complex cancer surgery, and general surgery. He is able to perform cancer surgery for patients with recurring or locally advanced colorectal cancer, and he is also an expert in benign bowel pathology. His areas of interest are: • Anal and trans-anal surgery • Anal cancer • Colon and rectal cancer • Conventional/open surgery • Endoscopic surgery (gastroscopy, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy) • Functional bowel disease and motility disorders • Gastrointestinal bleeding • HIPEC • Inflammatory Bowel Disease • Laparoscopic colorectal surgery • Polypectomy • Radiation proctitis • Recurrent cancer surgery After graduating from Cambridge University in 1993, Mr Antoniou completed his training in East Anglia, the South East, and London. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1996. He has worked at a number of major teaching hospitals, including King's College Hospital and St Mary's Hospital in London, and undertook his laparoscopic fellowship at the Hamlyn Centre. In 2006, he began working as a consultant at the Royal Marsden Hospital, where he was responsible for establishing the colorectal unit there. Mr Antoniou is involved in research and has an interest in the development and treatment of colorectal diseases (benign, malignant, and advanced). He has written for high-impact publications and has also delivered a number of presentations at national and international conferences.
