Mr Akshay Mehra is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery. He has been a full-time consultant at The Alexandra Hospital in Redditch since 2013, where he provides care for patients with a range of orthopaedic conditions affecting the hip and knee, including degenerative joint disease and complex reconstructive cases.
Mr Mehra completed his medical degree at Agra Medical School in India in 1996 before relocating to the United Kingdom in 1999. He undertook training in general surgical specialties and obtained Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2002. In 2005, he entered the Higher Surgical Training Programme in Birmingham and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2009. He completed his specialist training in 2011.
Following completion of his training, Mr Mehra undertook a one-year fellowship in hip and knee surgery at Leicester General Hospital. He subsequently gained further experience in hip and knee reconstructive surgery during a six-month fellowship at St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Mehra is actively involved in research and medical education. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, authored a book chapter on hip surgery, and presented his work at national and international conferences. He also contributes to the Birmingham orthopaedic training programme.
