Professor Aali Sheen is a Consultant General Surgeon and a national leader in abdominal wall and groin surgery. With a distinguished career that began with medical training in Dundee and specialist surgical training across London, Leeds, and Manchester, he further honed his expertise by training in advanced ‘keyhole’ hernia surgery in Sweden. Professor Sheen is internationally recognised for his pioneering work in the management of groin pain, particularly in athletes. He redefined the field by publishing the first consensus statement on athletic groin pain in 2014 and was recently the UK Lead Investigator for the world’s first randomised controlled trial comparing treatments for sportsman’s groin. His extensive experience includes treating elite Premiership footballers and amateur athletes, advocating a holistic approach that prioritises non-operative treatments like physiotherapy, plasma injections, and shockwave therapy where appropriate. For patients requiring surgery, he offers the full spectrum of techniques, including suture-only repair and cutting-edge robotic surgery—pioneering the world’s first robotic inguinal hernia repair using the Versius system (rvTEP). As a core member of Manchester's Hip and Groin Clinic and through his own practice, Professor Sheen combines unparalleled expertise with a patient-centred philosophy to deliver exceptional care.
