About Dr Mohan Babu Rathnaiah
Dr Mohan Babu Rathnaiah is a highly regarded consultant psychiatrist specialising in liaison and neuropsychiatry, with practices in both London and Nottingham. He provides expert assessment and treatment for a wide spectrum of mental health conditions, including psychosis, bipolar disorder, depression, dementia and cognitive disorders, sleep disturbances, adult autism and neurodivergence, and impulsive–compulsive spectrum disorders. With a strong foundation in neuropsychiatry, he is particularly skilled in managing complex conditions that sit at the intersection of psychiatry and neurology. He also brings significant experience in old age psychiatry, having previously served as a Locum Consultant in this field. Dr Rathnaiah currently offers private consultations at the Brain Health Clinic in London and at the Consulting Rooms in Nottingham, providing specialist diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients across both regions. His medical career began at Government Medical College in Mysore, from which he graduated in 2001. After several years working in some of India’s leading hospitals, he relocated to the UK and joined the West Kent NHS and Social Care Trust as a senior house officer in mental health. He went on to complete a Diploma in Mental Health from Queen’s University Belfast, followed by the MRCPsych in 2010, awarded by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Alongside his clinical work, Dr Rathnaiah is committed to research that directly benefits patient care. His publications span both India and the UK, addressing areas such as cognitive deficits in classical schizophrenia, occupational stress, and postnatal depression. He is currently the medical lead and principal coordinator for SPRING—the Study of Psychosis and the Role of Inflammation and GABA/Glutamate—an important investigation based in Nottingham exploring the biological mechanisms underlying psychotic disorders. In addition to his clinical and research commitments, Dr Rathnaiah serves as an Honorary Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham, contributing to the education and development of the next generation of medical professionals. Through his combined work in clinical psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, research, and teaching, he remains dedicated to improving patients’ quality of life and advancing understanding within the field of mental health.
