About
Dr Mohammed Elmarghany is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with clinical expertise in paediatric orthopaedics, hip and pelvis surgery, lower and upper limb deformities, arthroplasty of the hip and knee, and management of sports-related injuries. He is currently practising at NMC Royal Hospital in Dubai, UAE, and holds an academic appointment as Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Al-Azhar University, Cairo.
Dr Elmarghany graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.Ch) from Al-Azhar University in 2007 and completed his Master’s degree in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2011.
His specialist interests include hip preservation surgery, including surgical hip dislocation for slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE), management of Perthes disease sequelae, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), and developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). He routinely performs pelvic osteotomies, total hip and knee arthroplasties (using ceramic-on-highly-cross-linked polyethylene implants), and a wide range of procedures in paediatric orthopaedics.
Dr Elmarghany is also experienced in deformity correction, limb lengthening, and the management of non-unions and malunions. His sports injury practice covers anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, meniscal repairs, patellar instability, and tendon injuries of the knee, managed either arthroscopically or via open surgical repair.
His broader orthopaedic practice encompasses the surgical management of pelvic and acetabular fractures, hand surgery (including nerve decompression and metacarpal fracture fixation), and various foot procedures such as hallux valgus correction, flat foot reconstruction, and cavovarus deformities. He also performs shoulder surgery, including mini-open rotator cuff repair and acromioclavicular joint decompression.
Prior to his relocation to the UAE, he held various academic and clinical roles in Egypt. From November 2017 to May 2021, he worked as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Lecturer at Al-Azhar University Hospitals in Cairo. Between September 2013 and November 2017, he served as an Assistant Lecturer and Specialist Surgeon, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training residents in orthopaedics. He performed over 1,000 surgeries during this period, covering trauma, joint reconstruction, arthroscopy, and deformity correction.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Elmarghany has contributed to medical education as an associate professor of orthopedic surgery. His teaching has focused on paediatric orthopaedics, pelvis and acetabulum surgery, and foot and ankle conditions.
