Miss Sara Matthews is a consultant Gynaecologist with an exceedingly high level of competence and training. She completed her medical degree at Queens University, Belfast, in 1991. She was then admitted as a full member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1996, and became qualified both as a Consultant Gynaecologist and RCOG Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery in 2004, while also achieving a Masters Degree from the University of Leeds.
Miss Matthews has one of the broadest experiences of all consultants in the UK in the field of Fertility Medicine, having worked in a number of the largest, most prestigious and highly regarded fertility units in the country. She has trained with the Lord Sir Robert Winston at Hammersmith Hospital, along with many other institutions from across the country. Miss Matthews was the Medical Director of the Homerton Foundation University NHS Hospital Trust Assisted Conception Unit in North East London until 2008, and is now based solely at the Portland Hospital in London. She is currently the HFEA Nominal licensee for Andrology Solutions fertility centre.
Miss Matthews also trained in psychiatric medicine, and in Genito-Urinary medicine (including the diploma course of the Medical Society for the Study of Venereal Disease MSSVD). She is a qualified Forensic Medical Officer (trained in the assessment and care of rape victims), and is certified as an advanced laparoscopic surgeon (RCOG MASII).
Miss Matthews is involved in the training and formal examination of junior gynaecologists, and the assessment of new subspecialist consultants in the field of fertility. She has also been a tutor for the medical students at Cambridge University, and is occasionally involved in TV and radio coverage of topical fertility issues, and as an author of several women's magazine articles related to gynaecology.
Miss Matthews extensive past credentials and exceedingly high level of training ensures that she supplies only the highest standards of care and treatment to all of her patients.
