Informazioni
Miss Iman Azmy is the lead Breast Surgeon at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. She specialises purely in breast surgery, with more than 15 years of experience as a Consultant in breast surgery, breast reconstructive surgery and cosmetic breast surgery.
Her undergraduate training took place at the University of Glasgow. She then undertook surgical training at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, followed by appointment to the North Trent Higher Surgical Rotation in 1997. During her higher surgical training she opted to undertake 3 years in full-time research at the University of Sheffield investigating possible links between markers in inflammatory genes and breast cancer. This work resulted in being awarded a research grant by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and winning the East Midlands Surgical Society Prize. Miss Azmy gained the higher degree of MD in 2004 for this project.
Miss Azmy succeeded in gaining her first choice preference of one of the inaugural National UK Oncoplastic fellowships in 2003. This prestigious fellowship involved intensive cross-specialty training in plastic surgery, particularly in relation to oncological/reconstructive surgery. The experience enabled Miss Azmy to develop a new breast reconstruction service at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
Miss Azmy is dedicated to training junior breast surgeons in oncoplastic techniques. As well as giving lectures locally and nationally for surgical trainees, Miss Azmy has also given many talks and seminars to educate and inform patients on issues related to breast cancer, breast awareness and breast reconstruction. She continues to participate in research projects and to publish in the medical literature.
Miss Azmy has extensive experience in breast reconstructive techniques including nipple sparing or skin sparing mastectomy, implant based reconstruction aided by ADM, as well as autologous or implant assisted LD flap reconstruction. She utilises innovative techniques in this field such as lipomodelling (fat transfer), therapeutic mammoplasty and pre-pectoral implant positioning. She works very closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients are given the full range of therapeutic options and the highest standards of care.
