Miss Heather Baldwin has been working as a Consultant Ophthalmologist since 2012, providing care in general ophthalmology to both NHS and private patients. She holds specialist interests in oculoplastic surgery and non-surgical anterior segment disease. A significant part of her practice involves pre- and post-operative cataract management, including advising patients on premium intraocular lens options and performing high volumes of YAG laser capsulotomies.
Miss Baldwin completed specialist training in oculoplastics at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Western Eye Hospital and subsequently served as an NHS Locum Consultant in Oculoplastics at Western Eye Hospital. During her subspecialty training, she contributed to academic research, publishing papers and a book chapter on an innovative technique for ptosis correction.
She also held NHS Locum Consultant posts in general ophthalmology at St Peter’s Hospital and Royal Surrey Hospital, and later as a Consultant for Specialist Health Services, delivering general ophthalmology services to NHS patients in Windsor and Maidenhead.
Before focusing exclusively on oculoplastics and anterior segment disease, Miss Baldwin performed approximately 1,000 cataract operations during her training, with excellent audited outcomes. Her training rotations took place in Southampton, St Thomas’s Hospital in London, and Oxford. She was awarded the prestigious Frost Fellowship to undertake an MD in corneal wound healing at St Thomas’s Hospital, where her research contributed to the development of treatments aimed at reducing corneal scarring. Her work has been presented at international conferences and published widely.
Miss Baldwin began her medical education at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and was awarded an MRC Fellowship during her undergraduate studies, earning a First-Class BSc in Anthropology from University College London.
