Miss Anna Maino is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with specialist expertise in ocular motility disorders in both adults and children. Her clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and management of conditions affecting eye movement and binocular vision, including strabismus (squint), diplopia (double vision) and abnormal head posture. She also manages complex acquired ocular motility disorders arising from conditions such as thyroid eye disease, trauma, stroke and cancer treatment, using surgical, medical and optical approaches.

Miss Maino studied medicine at the University of Bari, graduating with first class honours in 1998. She subsequently worked as a Glaucoma Research Fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London (1999-2000) before completing specialist ophthalmology training in Manchester (2001-2008). In 2008, she undertook an internationally renowned fellowship in strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital. She was appointed as a consultant in 2009 at Stepping Hill Hospital, where she established and led a specialist strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology service, and later moved her practice to Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in 2016.

She has particular expertise in complex strabismus surgery, including incomitant and atypical presentations, and performs minimally invasive surgical techniques designed to optimise recovery and preserve future surgical options. Miss Maino is actively involved in education and research, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications. She holds several national and international professional roles, including President Elect of the European Board of Ophthalmology, Global Ophthalmology Committee, Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK) and Vice President, Digital Education Commitee, American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.
