He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery) in 2019 and completed his specialist training in 2020.

To further refine his skills, Mr Hughes completed advanced fellowships at the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit and the Liverpool Upper Limb Unit, focusing on shoulder and elbow surgery. He is a member of several professional organisations, including the British Elbow and Shoulder Society and the British Orthopaedic Association, reflecting his commitment to excellence in orthopaedic care.

Alongside his surgical speciality Mr Hughes volunteers as a Pre-Hospital Critical Care doctor and regularly attends serious medical and trauma incidents on behalf of the North West Ambulance Service, reflecting his interest in trauma care and commitment to ensuring the best possible care from roadside to theatre. Mr Hughes is a Trauma Team Leader at Aintree Major Trauma Centre and an instructor on the European Trauma Course.
