About Mr Matthew Ward
Mr Matthew Ward is a highly esteemed Consultant ENT Surgeon at Portsmouth University Hospital NHS Trust (PHUT), where he has been serving since July 2018. He offers consultations for all aspects of ear, nose, and throat conditions, with a specialist interest in head and neck cancer, facial skin cancers, salivary gland disease, and thyroid and parathyroid surgery. As the Lead Clinician for Head and Neck and Thyroid Cancer at PHUT, and the Clinical Lead for Head and Neck Cancer in the Wessex Cancer Alliance, Mr Ward plays a pivotal role in advancing patient care. He is also an active member of the PHU Joint Parathyroid Clinic, which annually treats over 150 patients with parathyroid disease. Dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes, he utilises the latest surgical technologies, including intraoperative nerve monitoring, parathyroid auto-fluorescence, and rapid access parathyroid hormone testing. Additionally, Mr Ward is trained in both transoral laser and transoral robotic surgery, having undergone specialised training with Dr Greg Weinstein in Philadelphia. Driven by a passion for head and neck surgery, Mr Ward's decision to pursue ENT training was fueled by his fascination with the complex anatomy and technical challenges of the field. He thrives in the team-based environment of head and neck surgery, collaborating seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams to provide patient-centred care at the highest standards.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
