About Dr Martha Eibl
Dr. med. Martha Eibl war eine ungarisch-österreichische Medizinerin und Immunologin. Nach ihrem Medizinstudium promovierte sie an der medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Wien. Es folgte ein Postdoctoral Fellowship an der New York University Medical School. Ihre fachärztliche Ausbildung zur Fachärztin für Innere Medizin absolvierte sie in Wien. Dr. med. Eibl habilitierte sich an der medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Wien und wurde zur Universitätsprofessorin für Immunologie berufen. Sie verband in ihrer Tätigkeit stets experimentelle Forschung mit der klinischen Arbeit an Patientinnen und Patienten. Als Konsiliarärztin war sie in mehreren Wiener Kinderkrankenhäusern tätig und beriet dort zu Immunerkrankungen, insbesondere im Bereich Immundefizienzen. Ihre wissenschaftliche Tätigkeit konzentrierte sich auf das Gebiet der Immunologie. Sie forschte intensiv an der Anwendung von Immunglobulinen und trug maßgeblich zur Aids-Impfstoffforschung bei. Für ihre herausragende Arbeit wurde Dr. med. Eibl vielfach ausgezeichnet, unter anderem mit dem Österreichischen Ehrenkreuz für Wissenschaft und Kunst erster Klasse, der Roten Lilie von Florenz für Wissenschaft und Humanität und der Ehrenmedaille der Masaryk-Universität Brünn.
