He pursued his physician and gastroenterology training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Liverpool Hospital in Sydney. His training included endoscopy fellowships at Liverpool Hospital and Singapore General Hospital, a globally recognised centre for pancreaticobiliary care. He is accredited for a range of procedures including Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography), and EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound). His clinical interests include colorectal cancer screening, endoscopic mucosal resection, and pancreaticobiliary endoscopy. In addition to his role at Concord Repatriation General Hospital, Dr Bonnichsen performs gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures privately at Sydney Day Surgery Hospital and Strathfield Private Hospital. He also serves as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney, integrating his international expertise into Australian practice. Dr Bonnichsen is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
