About Dr Luke Northey
Dr Luke Northey is an experienced ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in corneal, glaucoma, and cataract surgery. He consults at Central Sydney Eye Surgeons, providing specialised care for patients with a wide range of ophthalmic conditions. Dr Northey completed his ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital, where he served as the professorial senior registrar and chaired the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists trainee representative group. He then undertook a glaucoma fellowship at Westmead Hospital, Sydney, where he gained expertise in incisional and microinvasive glaucoma surgical techniques as well as medical and laser glaucoma therapies. Following this, he completed a fellowship in cornea, external eye diseases, and refractive surgery at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. During this fellowship, he trained in all aspects of corneal transplant surgery, complicated cataract surgery, pterygium surgery, and surface-based therapeutic and refractive laser procedures. Dr Northey is committed to patient-focused, evidence-based healthcare and strives to achieve the best possible outcomes for his patients. He has published in peer-reviewed medical journals and has presented his research at national and international ophthalmology conferences. In addition to his clinical practice, he is a Clinical Associate Lecturer at the University of Sydney. His areas of expertise include the management of keratoconus, Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy, primary and secondary glaucoma, and complex cataract surgery. He is skilled in corneal surgery, including corneal transplant and corneal collagen crosslinking, as well as glaucoma surgery using incisional and microinvasive techniques. Additionally, he performs refractive surgery, specialising in surface-based laser procedures. Dr Northey’s dedication to advancing ophthalmology has been recognised through awards such as the Sydney Hospitallers’ Norman Rose Travelling Scholarship and the RANZCO Trevelyn-Smith Travelling Scholarship. His expertise and commitment to education and research ensure he remains at the forefront of ophthalmic care.
