About

Dr Karen Shaw is an experienced General and Breast Surgeon dedicated to delivering personalised, comprehensive care for individuals facing both benign and malignant breast conditions. She has a special interest in breast cancer management and is highly skilled in oncoplastic surgical techniques that combine cancer removal with aesthetic preservation.

A graduate of the University of Sydney, Dr Shaw holds a Master of Surgery and a Graduate Certificate in Breast Surgery. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and an active member of both General Surgeons Australia and a full member of BreastSurgANZ.

Dr Shaw completed a dedicated Breast Surgery Fellowship at Concord Repatriation General Hospital, where she gained extensive experience in multidisciplinary cancer care. In 2018, she was appointed Clinical Surgical Superintendent at Concord, where she further developed her leadership in clinical governance, medical education, and surgical training. She also holds an academic appointment as a Clinical Lecturer at Macquarie University.

Her practice encompasses the full spectrum of breast care, including breast cancer surgery (lumpectomy, mastectomy including nipple or skin sparing, Sentinel node biopsy), benign breast disease, high-risk screening and surveillance, and breast reconstruction (implant based and autolgoous). She works closely with a multidisciplinary team—including oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and GPs—to ensure each patient receives coordinated, evidence-based care tailored to their individual needs.

Dr Shaw is known for her thoughtful communication, her patient-centred approach, and her commitment to supporting women through what can be a challenging and emotional journey. She welcomes patients with breast symptoms or concerns that may require surgical assessment or ongoing management.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
