Joonas Vehvilainen is a counsellor specialising in addiction, trauma, and complex mental health issues. Originally from Finland, he has lived in Thailand, the United States, and the UK, where he is currently based.
From 2016 to 2019, Joonas worked in London as a healthcare assistant in a mental health unit and as a support worker in supported accommodation. Witnessing the challenges faced by individuals with mental health and addiction difficulties motivated him to pursue formal training in addiction psychology and counselling at London South Bank University. Alongside his studies, he worked part time as a counsellor with the NHS, Humankind, and WDP between 2019 and 2021, experiences that helped consolidate his clinical skills and deepen his understanding of addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions.
Following the completion of his degree, Joonas became a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and Addiction Professionals in 2021, and he achieved full BACP accreditation in 2025. He has been working as a counsellor for over five years and has run his own private practice since 2022. During this time, he has also worked as an addictions therapist at Castle Craig Hospital.
Joonas currently works with clients in both Finnish and English, using solution-focused approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). His practice centres on helping individuals address addiction, trauma, and related mental health difficulties in a practical, collaborative, and supportive way.
