Dr. James Zachariah graduated from MBBS in 1984 and underwent surgical training in CHRISTIAN MEDICAL COLLEGE VELLORE & LUDHIANA, where he completed his MS (Master of Surgery) in 1992. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 2011 awarded in San Francisco, USA. Following this, Dr. Zachariah was trained in Taiwan, under the world-renowned bariatric and metabolic surgeon, Prof. Wei-Jei Lee, at the Asia Pacific Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center in Taiwan, where he did his Fellowship in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery. He was awarded 'Outstanding International Bariatric Fellow 2015' for his outstanding clinical and research work.
Dr. Zachariah has over 30 years of surgical experience in his field, combined both in India and Dubai. Before joining Prime Healthcare, Dr. James Zachariah was the head of the general and bariatric surgery department at Zulekha Hospital, Dubai, and contributed as the Chairman of the Antibiotic Stewardship Committee for several years. His expertise covers many types of surgery including sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic mini-gastric bypass, thyroid surgery, colon surgery, and laparoscopic hernia surgery. During his career, Dr. Zachariah has performed more than 1800 laparoscopic and over 350 successful bariatric surgical procedures. Dr. Zachariah was involved in bariatric research and has contributed as a first author to multiple publications to a number of peer-reviewed journals. He endeavors in practicing evidence-based surgical care that results in the best patient experiences and outcomes. Before coming to UAE, Dr. Zachariah was the Head of Dept of Surgery, in CARE Hospital, Visakhapatnam, India, and established a laparoscopic unit
