About

Dr Imre Hunyor is a cardiologist at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Central Sydney Cardiology. His specialist areas are cardiac imaging (MRI, CT, Echo), molecular biology, and cardiac metabolism and energetics. Dr Hunyor has expertise in all areas of general cardiology including arrhythmia, cardiomyopathy, and valvular heart disease, and is able to use imaging in the diagnosis and management of a number of conditions including arrhythmia, congenital, genetic, and structural heart disease.

Dr Hunyor qualified with honours from the University of Sydney before being awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to undertake a PhD with the University of Oxford based at the Cardiovascular Medicine department of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics. His PhD study was centred on the processes of impaired energetics that lead to heart failure. Following this, Dr Hunyor became interested in cardiac imaging and went on to complete further postgraduate cardiology training and subspecialty cardiac MRI training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Dr Hunyor's current clinical and research interests are predominantly the use of novel imaging approaches to aid in the early diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac disease.

Aside from his hospital positions, Dr Hunyor is also a senior clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney Medical School. He is also significantly involved in medical training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and runs the teaching program for basic physician training and is also an examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
