About

Dr Hazem Akil, a highly qualified and experienced Australian-trained Neurosurgeon and Spinal Surgeon at Precision Health. Throughout his career, Dr Akil has sought excellence by travelling the world, honing his skills, and gaining expertise from some of the best neurosurgical centres. His vast experience encompasses various areas in brain and spinal surgery, making him a sought-after specialist.

His journey began with postgraduate surgical training in the United Kingdom, where he received training in Edinburgh and London and earned full membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2004. Dr Akil's thirst for knowledge and growth led him to Australia, where he secured a place in the highly competitive Royal Australasian College of Surgeons neurosurgical training program. After rigorous training in Neurosurgery and gaining invaluable experience in major neurosurgical units in Sydney and Melbourne, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Neurosurgery.

In addition to his neurosurgical expertise, Dr Akil pursued further intensive training in advanced and complex spine surgery, undertaking a prestigious AO Spine fellowship under the guidance of Dr Geoffrey Askin in Brisbane. This additional training equipped him with state-of-the-art techniques, including minimally invasive surgery and artificial disc replacement, to address a diverse range of spinal conditions such as disc prolapse, degenerative spinal disease, tumours, and spinal trauma.

Dr Akil's areas of special interest include the diagnosis and treatment of spinal disorders, peripheral nerve pathology, and brain tumours. His philosophy revolves around providing timely and patient-centred care, emphasising the importance of personalised treatment for optimal results.

As part of Precision Brain Spine and Pain Centre, Dr Akil consults at various locations, including Kew, Berwick, Vermont, Bundoora, Epping, Essendon, Bendigo, and Seymour. He is delighted to see patients with private health insurance, DVA, TAC, and Workcover patients, ensuring accessibility to his expertise and care.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
