About
Dr Ed Skinner is an experienced Specialist General Practitioner (FRACGP) with over 10 years of expertise, particularly in sexual health and skin cancer care.
Originally from Melbourne, Dr Skinner completed undergraduate degrees in Civil Engineering (Hons) and Commerce at the University of Melbourne. He later pursued postgraduate studies in Medicine and Surgery with Honours, for his research on chlamydia awareness campaigns.
Dr Skinner is experienced in diagnosing and treating sexually transmitted infections (STIs), managing PrEP and PEP medications, and addressing sexual dysfunction in both men and women. He also treats a wide range of skin-related sexual health conditions, such as herpes, warts, and molluscum. Beyond sexual health, he’s skilled in skin cancer detection and surgery, comprehensive skin checks, and treating conditions like hair loss, acne, psoriasis, and dermatitis.
As an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne’s Department of General Practice and Primary Care, Dr Skinner plays an active role in research initiatives such as the University’s Data for Decisions program and Future Health Today (FHT). These projects focus on improving patient outcomes in STI prevention, cancer detection, and chronic disease management. He also teaches medical students, sharing his passion for evidence-based care.
At Yarra Medical, where Dr Skinner is the principal doctor, he has spearheaded the integration of FHT’s decision-support software into clinical practice, enabling early detection and better follow-up care for patients. His role on the FHT Data Quality Committee reflects his dedication to using technology to advance healthcare.
Friendly, approachable, and highly skilled, Dr Skinner is committed to providing exceptional care and improving the health and well-being of his patients.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
