Dr. Mehdi Mirkhani is a Consultant Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist working in the NHS and also in private sector. Dr Mirkhani holds expertise in a range of psychiatric presentations, neuropsychiatry and neurodevelopmental conditions affecting children and young people.
Dr Mirkhani completed his basic medical training in one of the best medical schools Persia and started working in the NHS in 2005; he had basic training in psychiatry in South London and Maudsley and acquired higher training in child and adolescent psychiatry in South West London and St George's NHS Trust. He has extensive training in neuropsychiatry, neurodevelopmental disorders, forensic psychiatry, family therapy, eating disorders and acute mental health problems.
Dr Mirkhani has worked on the establishment of a specialist pathway for children with learning difficulties in central and north London. He has been trained in using the Developmental, Dimensional and Diagnostic interview (3di) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) to assess neurodevelopmental disorders, and has also been trained in using QEEG as an objective assessment tool for the diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders and ADHD. He has also had extensive training from the National Centre for Eating Disorders. He secured his position on the General Medical Council Specialist Register in February 2016.
Dr Mirkhani also works for the Care Quality Commission as a specialist advisor.
Dr Mirkhani has a particular interest in transcultural aspects of mental health care and his expertise in assessing clients in other languages helps him in this respect. He is able to assess his clients with a special consideration towards their socio-cultural background. He has been invited as a cultural expert to assess clients with mental health difficulties. Dr Mirkhani is fluent in Farsi and able to assess clients in English/Farsi and French languages and is also a basic user of British Sign Language as he has experience of working with Deaf children and young people with mental health difficulties.

Dr Mirkhani has assessed and treated a range of neurodevelopmental conditions and mental health disorders affecting children and young people including ADHD, Autism related problems, Learning Disability, Anorexia Nervosa, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Depressive illnesses, Anxiety disorders, Tourette's syndrome, self-harm, Psychotic disorders, emotional dysregulation and more.
He is a Leader in ADHD assessment and treatment pathways in his NHS role.

Dr Mirkhani uses a holistic approach towards any difficulty affecting the family. He will share an understanding of the difficulty from a biological, psychological and social model of care. Dr Mirkhani will help the family understand the exact nature of the difficulties and how they can be tackled using environmental, psychological, social and pharmacological strategies if needed.
He engages with children and young people in a client centred approach. Dr Mirkhani works with children, young people and parents in a way that acknowledges and validates the difficult experience the family is going through but brings to light the family's own resilience which propels the desire for recovery.
Dr Mirkhani follows NICE guideline and evidence-based practice in his multiaxial approach and when appropriate respects patient's decisions and safety in any pharmacological approaches and in the prescription of medication.
