About Dr Krishna Moorthy
Dr. Krishna Moorthy is a highly specialised consultant surgeon with expertise in upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgery and hernia and abdominwal wall surgery. He practises at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and holds an Associate Professor position in Surgery at Imperial College London. He specialises in upper GI surgery, particularly for all conditions of the oesophagus and stomach. Dr. Moorthy has extensive expertise in advanced laparoscopic surgery for upper GI cancers and other related conditions such as gastro-oesophageal reflux (GORD) and weight-loss (bariatric surgery). Dr. Moorthy's practice also includes all types of hernia surgery, ranging from simple inguinal hernias to complex hernias like hiatal and incisional hernias, including major abdominal wall reconstruction. He is the director and lead surgeon of the British Hernia Centre, one of UK's first and largest specialist hernia clinics. Dr. Moorthy has been at the forefront of adopting innovative practises in surgery that have the potential to reduce operative trauma and enhance post-operative recovery. He performed the first robotic gastric bypass and gastric band surgeries in the UK. He has also performed single-incision surgery. Dr. Moorthy's dedication extends beyond clinical practice to research and development. He has contributed to over 80 peer-reviewed papers published in reputable medical journals. His research interests encompass various aspects of surgery, including information transfer, multidisciplinary handover, safety, teamwork in the operating theatre, and the safety and quality of care for patients undergoing elective and emergency surgery. He has also pioneered the concept of prehabilitation, which involves preparing patients for major surgery through a focus on exercise, nutrition, psychological well-being and lifestyle modifications.
