About Dr Jonathan Hoare
Dr Jonathan Hoare, Consultant Gastroenterologist, currently works within the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust at St Marys's Hospital. He also sees patients privately in several London-based clinics in Paddington and Marylebone. He is highly specialised in performing endoscopic procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of early gut cancer, Barrett's Oesophagus, colonic polyps, swallowing disorders, and complex GI conditions. Dr Hoare began his medical education at the University of Cambridge and St Mary's Hospital Medical School, graduating in 1993. During his training, he undertook a research degree with the Medical Research Council in molecular biology, he was awarded a PhD for his work in the field in 2001. He also undertook a fellowship at St Mark's Hospital, before he was appointed Consultant at St Mark's Hospital in 2006. Within his current position, he has taken on additional responsibility as the Head of Endoscopy, which he has held for 11 years. Dr Hoare takes an active role in medical education, holding the position of Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London for the Academic Department of Surgery and Cancer. His excellent work on the colonoscopy insertion technique has been recognised by the field resulting in him being awarded the "Marsha Dreyer" research award by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is also an active researcher, having over 35 peer-reviewed publications on endoscopy and other aspects of gastroenterology.
