About

Dr Jay Naik is a Consultant Medical Oncologist specialising exclusively in the medical treatment of breast cancer. He has over 20 years’ experience in cancer medicine, including more than 15 years as a consultant, and treats patients with early and advanced breast cancer, including complex and high-risk disease.

He is based at Harrogate District Hospital, where he is Clinical Lead for Research and local lead for clinical trials, ensuring patients have access to the latest evidence-based treatments and, where appropriate, novel therapies. He holds a PhD and is actively involved in research and education in breast cancer.

Dr Naik is known for his clear, compassionate, and honest approach to care. He places strong emphasis on shared decision-making, taking time to understand each patient’s priorities and to explain treatment options, benefits, and risks in a straightforward and transparent way. Patients frequently seek his opinion for treatment planning, second opinions, and guidance through complex decisions.

From 2021 to 2024, Dr Naik served as Clinical Director of the West Yorkshire & Harrogate Cancer Alliance Breast Optimal Pathways Group, helping to optimise breast cancer care delivery across a large regional cancer network.

He has a particular interest in, modern tumour testing, advanced and risk-specific communication, and co-facilitates the TARGET and TRUSTING courses developed by Professors Val Jenkins and Lesley Fallowfield (SHORE-C group), supporting clinicians in effective and empathetic communication with patients.

His commitment to patient-centred care has been recognised with several awards, including the Kate Granger Compassionate Care Award and the Making a Difference Award at Harrogate District Hospital.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
