About Dr James Rakshi
Dr James Rakshi has been a consultant neurologist for 20 years and has extensive expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute and chronic neurological problems. He treats all general neurology problems as well as dementia, dizziness, epilepsy, headache, head injury, multiple sclerosis, neck and back problems, Parkinson's, sleep problems, stroke, and sensory disturbance. Dr Rakshi earned his medical degree in 1988 from Aberdeen University in Scotland. He became interested in neurology and brain imaging whilst working in the Neurology and Neurosurgical unit of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where the first clinical MRI brain scanner was built. Dr Rakshi studied general medicine for over four years before specialising in neurology, which allows him to approach neurology in a more holistic way. His neurology training was undertaken at various prominent London hospitals, including the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, where he later became an Honorary Consultant. Additionally, he has worked in many of London's district general hospitals and has run an advanced multiple sclerosis centre. Each patient's symptoms manifest in a unique way, and Dr Rakshi uses a variety of techniques to better assess and treat his patients. He understands the importance of taking the time to listen to his patients and their families, as well as having an open mind when evaluating the more critical and urgent diagnoses; sometimes an inadvertent statement from the patient or family can offer a vital clue that leads to a diagnosis. Dr Rakshi is known for clearly explaining the patient's neurological condition and how best to treat it. He is also frequently asked to provide a second opinion. He prides himself on arranging investigations in a timely manner and providing detailed reports that are easy to understand. Dr Rakshi's overall approach is straightforward: treat every patient the same way you would want to be treated yourself.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
